I've never seen that kind zoning sign before. Is it really necessary? And what if I'm walking by and get all full of the Lord and feel like shouting hallelujahs? Will the cops arrest me? So many questions...
"I've never seen that kind zoning sign before. Is it really necessary?" I'm afraid it is. I've been inside the Cathedral for services during Carnival before, and you would not believe what you can hear going on outside!
"... What if I'm walking by and get all full of the Lord and feel like shouting hallelujahs? Will the cops arrest me?" Probably not. New Orleans finest would most likely assume you were either (a) just another Saints fan or (b) just another French Quarter character without enough money in your pocket to justify your arrest and subsequent fine.
Sharp eye. I'm drawn not so much to the sign, but to the angle of that lamp and the way it bisects those very straight buildings (but then I have an odd eye, I confess). I also had to smile that right beneath the image is the notice "related posts" but I don't see any "posts" just plain old churches.... :)
@GJC: Capturing the angle was important to me. That was the second thing I noticed about the lamp (you couldn't miss the sign, it's red on white). Of course, the reason for the lean has everything to do with "unquiet" rowdiness.
@reno: This square in front of this cathedral becomes like a medieval square on holidays, especially one like tomorrow's Carnival. The sign will then take on the meaning of a steady-handed guardian offering a pearl of wisdom.

To answer your questions one at a time:

terrific capture! that is a great sign :)
Thank you, Charles. My favorite local sign is still "Don't Even Think of Parking Here" with "Thou Shalt Not Park" coming in a close second.

Very interesting for what it's revealing about the importance of silence. And the peace of your photography seem to be in this "sense".
